The History of the Track

A golf course by the ocean.

“Fanø Golf Links—A Historic Golf Course” tells the story of Denmark’s oldest golf course, large parts of which have been preserved from the original layout that marked the beginning of Fanø Golf Links nearly 125 years ago. This is unique not only in Danish golf, but also in the history of golf on the European mainland.

The focus is on the course’s history. Much of the documentation regarding the history of golf on Fanø was lost when the Badet archives burned down during World War II. But there is still a story to be told.

The publications “Fanø Vesterhavsbad – The Golden Age as an International Seaside Resort” and “Fanø Bad – A Living Seaside Resort” discuss key aspects of the history and development of Fanø Golf Links.

However, the course’s significance to life at Fanø Vesterhavsbad for more than a century and its place in Danish golf history warrant that Fanø Golf
Links be given its own story.

The history of the bathhouse and the course is an integral part of today’s Fanø Golf Links—and it is important that some of this history be preserved for future generations in a format that is easily accessible at
. That is the purpose of this short publication.

“Fanø Golf Links—A Historic Golf Course,” like the two publications mentioned above, has been supported by the Lauritzen Foundation, to whom we extend our heartfelt thanks.
